Embrace your Aloha spirit and come to Santa Monica for your surfing lesson with Kapowui Surf Club. These guys are conveniently located on the beach parking lot. Just look for a bright VW Bus and a bunch of surf boards. All instructors are experienced surfers that live and dream surfing. They are excited to share their culture with you and they know how to teach. You will catch your first wave on the very first lesson and will never be able to stop loving it! This is a real escape from busy LA to a very chill beach vibe with all the Kapowui team. Also, there is a MEGALODON TOUR available every Sunday 7-8:30 AM. It's basically a huge surfboard for up to 10 adults where everybody paddles the board and you all surf big waves on it! Super fun adventure!

This was our first time. My son is 9 and Liam was so great with him and patient with me! I would highly recommend this company to anyone! We did the 90 minute lesson and it was perfect! We will be using Kapowui every time we visit!

I did a 2hr lesson with Todd and Marjan took photos of me. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Todd had me up on the board in no time and the photos Marjan took were stunning! Don't even look at any other shops for lessons, THIS is where you should book. I can't wait to come back and see them again! 🏄‍♀️❤️

This place is amazing! I called the night before wondering if they would take a last minute appointment the next day-they were more than accommodating. I had Todd as my instructor and he was incredible. He broke down all the steps perfectly and I was able to stand on the board way more than I expected for my second time surfing. It was so much fun! Don’t go anywhere else to learn!!!!

Had an awesome time at Kapowui with surf lessons for my kids!!! Can’t say enough good things about the team and in particular instructors Fairfax and River! My daughter is 7 years old and had never surfed before or had any interest in trying. Enter her instructor Fairfax and everything changed!! By the time the lesson was done my daughter was totally comfortable in the water, got up on the board and rode waves, and said that she loves surfing! She had a blast and now wants to keep surfing!! Fairfax worked her magic and created a newly inspired young surfer! We were so lucky that she was my daughter’s instructor for her first time on a board! My 10 year old son had River. He was awesome!! My son had so much fun! He learned a ton and had a lot of laughs!! River was a great teacher and made my son’s first time surfing in California an unbelievable experience! Life long memories for our kids and they are already planning a return trip!!! Thanks again to Kapowui, Fairfax and River for creating an amazing day for our kids!!!

Got my daughter her first surfing lesson for her birthday. Claudio was fantastic he gave her the confidence and instructions, step by step, that she needed to ride her very first wave. This was an amazing experience that we will cherish for ever.I highly recommend Kapowui for you next Surf Lesson.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Kapowui is a mobile service. We have multiple permited locations. However we park at 2701 Barnard Way, Santa Monica CA 90405, in Parking lot #5 south. We get there as soon as the gate opens every morning so we can park in the 1st space that is most visible from the board walk. You Can't miss us. Look for 1 or more of our 5 classic VW vans in the parking lot. There is also parking at 300 Ocean Front Walk Venice beach CA 90291. This address is a parking lot on the boarder of Venice and Santa Monica.

IS IT SAFE? ARE THERE ROCKS OR SHARKS?

Venice is one of the safest beaches to learn how to surf. VENICE BEACH HAS NO ROCKS OR REEFS. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A REPORTED SHARK ATTACK IN THE SANTA MONICA BAY... EVER!

IS THERE A PLACE TO CHANGE INTO WET SUIT, SHOWER AFTER LESSON, AND STORE MY PROPERTY DURRING THE LESSON, ?

yes, however the pubic bathrooms are unsanitary, i suggest wearing your swim suit to the beach or you can change in the parking lot. yes, there are showers and bathrooms at the beach. yes. we put all of your stuff in one of our vans and lock it up. there will always be someone is manning the van. we have never had anything go missing in 10 years of being in business.
